An alternative energy future is possible and I’m not saying it. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has released a report called Renewable Electricity Futures Study (RE Futures) in which it claims that it is possible to get 50 percent of our energy from renewable sources with technologies that we already have or, at least, without any major breakthroughs.
The report was funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and features collaborations from more than 110 contributors from 35 organizations including national laboratories, industry, universities, and non-governmental organizations.
