MicroPro’s Wooden Tablet: Greenest Computer on Earth? 0

Irish manufacturer MicroPro to launch it ‘Iameco’ wooden tablet computer in September.

It will be the first touchscreen computer to carry the EU’s ‘EcoFlower’ label certificate.

The computer’s casing is made from offcuts of sustainably sourced timbers such as walnut, solid oak or beech.

The Iameco (I am eco, geddit?) comprises 20% materials that can be easily reused in other computers and 78% recyclable materials.

It’s parts are designed to be easily upgradable giving it a lifespan of about 10 years, as opposed to the 3 – 5 years most current computers offer.

The Iameco will debut at the ELECTRONICS Goes Green conference in Berlin in September with a price tag of 850 euros.

The Iameco’s development was assisted by the Fraunhofer Institute for Reliability and Microintegration in Germany, which has described the tablet as “the most environmentally friendly computer of its type”.
