Jigar Shah founded SunEdison in his late 20’s, in 2003, and has grown it into one of the world’s largest solar service companies. The company pioneered solar Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), a revolutionary solar financing tool that brokers the sale of panels’ electricity over their lifetime.
In a recent interview, Shah acknowledged, “financial innovation is my life’s work.” However, Shah is not the get-rich-quick type. He’s committed to finding better and more efficient ways to build clean energy infrastructure across the world.
From 2009-2012, Shah served as CEO of the Carbon War Room, the global organization founded by Sir Richard Branson and Virgin United to help entrepreneurs address climate change. Now, Shah runs Jigar Shah Consulting, which works closely with the world’s leading influencers to guide policy makers around the world on climate change solutions.
Shah’s new book, Creating Climate Wealth, brilliantly reframes the solutions to climate change as a $10 trillion dollar opportunity – not a burden.
He explains that business model innovation, more than new technology, is the key to attract mainstream capital and unlock transformational change. “The 100/100 New Economy Plan” identifies 100,000 businesses selling $100 million in climate change solutions by 2020.
We’re honored that the King of Solar Business calls himself an “enthusiastic supporter” of Mosaic. He sees the sky as the limit on what the company can do: “From securitization to debt/equity to crowd sourcing, we will never have enough money investing in solar projects.”
- How are utilites harming the solar revolution?
- What does do foreign governments think of decentralized energy?
- India is planning to build the largest solar power plant on Earth.
- Do these five things to help ensure that you’ll be able to retire.
