Exhibiting the core essence of ‘boxy’ styling and body on frame construction, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class epitomizes robustness with its entire propensity. So, it really doesn’t come as a surprise that this boisterous vehicle is used in many parts of the world as a military carrier. However, some designers aren’t wholly satisfied with the automobile’s intrinsically power hungry drive train, which is infused with a 5.4-liter supercharged V8 engine. Hence, they have decided to tread the ‘green’ path by developing a low emission, electric variant of the G-Class, christened aptly as the ‘G-Electric’.
Designed by a company know as e-Traction, this conception is already touted as the world’s heaviest fully electric passenger car. In fact, being powered wholly by 92 percent efficient in-wheel electric motors, the craft can generate a gargantuan magnitude of torque of a whopping 5000 Nm. This in turn is complimented by a sturdy Li-Ion battery pack, housed under the passenger compartment for enhanced spatial efficiency.
This abundance of internal space, especially under the front hood can insinuate various future forms of utilization. For example, the company puts forth that this space could be used for testing of hydrogen fuel cell stacks, or even more batteries for better maneuvering capacity.
Finally, coming to its scope of commercialization, this electric monster has been specially created for the Dutch Ministry of Defense. However, the advanced design pattern of this vehicle can be used as a benchmark for further developments, which in turn could efficiently cater to the general public instead of just military.
