Big Jump in San Diego Solar Inspection Fees

The city of San Diego has raised it's Permit Fees to have an inspector check out a solar rooftop installation from $93 to $565. Rather than being on the low end of inspection fees in the state of California, San Diego now ranks second highest in the state behind National City, just south of San Diego. National City's inspection fees are a whopping $595.

Carl Mills from the Sierra Club says fees more than $324 are excessive. But, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders says the hike was needed to cover the administrative costs to do the inspection. Sanders did say that in a few months residents will be offered low cost loans for solar installations that they can pay off through their property tax bills.

Still, I'm sure many residents will be quite unhappy with this raise in inspection fees. San Diegans knows how difficult it can be to get inspectors to come out in a timely manner for typical home inspections anyway.
