Eco Factor: Sustainable stadium concept designed to harvest renewable energy.

Njiric + Arhitekti has designed a large stadium that tries to push the boundary of human experiences of public spaces. The sustainable stadium is housed within an artificial hill made of recycled rubber, with a blue pigment sprayed onto corrugated aluminum sheets. The green stadium features an open roof which allows natural light to enter the premises. Moreover, the unique stadium is equipped with a zeppelin-like balloon structure that covers the central area providing much-needed shade for the occupants.

The balloon structure, dubbed the “Cloud” has sewn-in photovoltaic cells that generate renewable energy for the stadium. The 188,905 m2 stadium can be used for a number of side-events such as skateboarding and free-climbing as well.
